United Way of the Capital Region’s (UWCR) Bridges Society connects the next generation of diverse leaders through giving and volunteering. Membership in the Bridges Society is ideally suited to donors under age 46 who make a minimum gift of $500 to UWCR. In 2011, 451 Bridges Society members raised $554,000 for UWCR’s annual campaign. How We LIVE UNITEDBridges Society members LIVE UNITED by making a difference in the lives of children and teens in the Capital Region. In 2011, the Bridges Society continued to work with Downey Elementary School, part of Harrisburg School District, to help improve students’ literacy skills and interest in reading by collecting books to replenish classroom libraries. Another part of this effort included a field trip to Barnes & Noble where members read with students, completed scavenger hunts and helped each student select a book to take home. In April of 2012, members worked side-by-side with 250 local high school students to complete beautification and clean-up projects in Harrisburg. This project was part of UWCR’s Annual Youth Day of Caring. Interested in Volunteering Through the Bridges Society? Then fill out our Volunteer Questionaire form.
