Join a Bridges Society Committee!
Looking to get involved? Don’t have a lot of time to commit? A Bridges Society Committee may be just what you’re looking for!
The Bridges Society is growing and the Steering Committee needs Bridges members to help with Community Outreach/Volunteering, Events and Membership committees.
Calling All Volunteers – Youth Day of Caring
Are you looking for a rewarding opportunity to volunteer in our community AND be a positive influence on youth? Then consider spending the day with us for United Way of the Capital Region’s (UWCR) Youth Day of Caring (YDOC) on Friday, April 23 (rain date of Friday, April 30).
YDOC brings together students from area high schools for a day of service at local non-profits. For the first time, 300+ students from area high schools will partner with the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency’s Weed & Seed program and UWCR’s Bridges Society to take on a huge single day outdoor clean-up in South Allison Hill with projects from graffiti removal to gardening.
Thank You for Your Response!
In late December of 2009 and early January of 2010, United Way of the Capital Region’s (UWCR) Bridges Society and Women’s Leadership Network members were surveyed separately to get feedback on the groups.
Participants in both surveys were then entered in a drawing for a $60 Giant Gift Card. We’re pleased to announce the winner is Bridges Society member Nick Dyer from Enterprise Rent-A-Car!
Bridges Members Chaperone Field Trip to Barnes & Noble
The Second Annual Bridges Society Field Trip to Barnes & Noble, held the week of January 25, was a great success! Enterprise Rent-A-Car sponsored the event for the second year in a row, making it possible for all 156 Downey Elementary School students who participated to go home with a new book.
“With all the bad news about the effects of the economy, it's great that United Way can be a conduit for people to give back on a local level through volunteering,” said Bill Feist, a member of the Bridges Steering Committee and a business development officer at Orrstown Bank. “The Bridges Society/Barnes & Noble volunteer event is the perfect example of how we can connect our community's inherent nature to help others with the need to expand child literacy. This event truly shows that a few hours of our time can go a long way.”
