The Volunteer Center is a program of United Way of the Capital Region (UWCR). Our mission is to advocate for volunteerism and serve as a clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities and needs in Dauphin, Cumberland and Perry counties. Every day, we work with a growing network of non-profit health and human service agencies, environmental groups, schools and nursing homes to recruit and place volunteers. Last year, more than 4,700 individuals were referred to non-profits throughout the Capital Region. Agencies interested in more details about programs and services available to them should contact Heidi Neuhaus at hneuhaus@uwcr.org, or call 717.732.0700 X 4055.

Here are just a few of the programs and services offered by the Volunteer Center:

Volunteer Opportunities: Whether it’s clerical assistance in the office, ongoing volunteer assignments, or one-day special events, we can help you find a volunteer opportunity that matches your skills, interests and busy schedule. Here you will find a list of community volunteer opportunities, updated on weekly basis.

Day of Caring: The Volunteer Center brings together more than 1,400 community residents and 65 agencies each year to complete hands-on projects in the Capital Region. You will find information here on Day of Caring, such as how you can get involved and project request forms.

Youth Programs: Today’s youth volunteers will be the adult leaders of tomorrow. You will find information here on how we can assist you in locating meaningful and enjoyable volunteer opportunities.

Corporate Volunteer Programs: You can find information here about how we can provide your company with assistance in developing and promoting a corporate volunteer program.

Volunteer of the Year Program: Each year, the Volunteer Center sponsors an awards program in partnership with the Junior League of Harrisburg, the Patriot-News and area businesses. Nomination forms and additional information can be found here.

Fund Distribution Panel: Each year, nearly 200 volunteers help United Way of the Capital Region make decisions about where the money raised will do the most good in our community. You will find information about our citizen-review process, how to participate and more here.
