Instructions For Form Completion:

Please list volunteer opportunities below. Be as specific as possible - this will enable United Way of the Capital Region to appropriately match volunteers with projects. Be sure to answer all questions. Please submit separate project applications for EACH one-day project you need performed; however, please recognize that those requiring special skills (carpentry, plumbing, etc.) are more difficult to fill. Feel free to submit as many projects as you wish to have completed!

In submitting this application, you, as coordinator, and your agency agree to the following:

  • To contact the Day of Caring Company Coordinator prior to the event.
  • To carefully organize projects so that volunteers have a fulfilling and positive experience. Volunteers should walk away with a sense of accomplishment and a feeling of pride for having contributed to their community. Supplies and equipment should be on-hand, projects ready to commence, and a staff person available to greet volunteers when they arrive at 9 a.m.
  • To ensure that volunteers are working in a safe environment. This means you will conduct a risk assessment of project site, ensure that a first aid kit is at each work site, develop an emergency action plan for each site (and make it available at each site); a phone is available at each site; and work sites are well ventilated, if using paint or cleaning products, etc.
  • To ensure that volunteers are notified in advance of any adverse conditions that may exist at the project site (such as poison ivy, insects, or other hazards). This way volunteers have the opportunity to properly prepare for the project or to decline participation if necessary.
  • To ensure that adequate supplies and equipment are available and on-site when volunteers arrive. This includes safety/protective equipment (safety glasses, gloves, breathing masks).
  • To have an agency representative available at all times to answer questions and supervise at each project site.
  • To provide adequate lunch and refreshments for your volunteers. This includes providing water and/or other beverages throughout the day.
  • To provide volunteers with a brief tour of your facility and an overview of the services you provide, highlighting their impact on the community. This will give volunteers a greater appreciation of the work you do and heighten public awareness of your agency.
  • To provide typewritten directions to each project site from major highway routes (I-81, I-83, Routes 11 & 15).
