Statistics show the youth volunteers of today will be the adult volunteers of tomorrow. The Volunteer Center has a wide range of programs geared towards introducing youth to volunteerism. We work with individual students and youth service groups. Programs include:
Summer Youth Volunteer Opportunities Brochure: The Volunteer Center has received many calls from youth interested in volunteering over the summer. To meet these requests, we’ve created a brand new Summer Youth Volunteer Opportunities Brochure. Updated annually before the end of each school year, this publication provides information specifically on agencies that need student volunteers during the summer. Check out a copy of the Summer Youth Volunteer Opportunities (PDF format, 595 kb) Youth Volunteer Opportunities Brochure: Updated annually, this brochure lists youth-appropriate volunteer activities in agencies throughout the Capital Region. This publication is updated at the start of each school year and is available at no cost. Check out a copy of the most recent brochure (PDF format, 510 kb). Youth Day of Caring: Plans are underway for the seventh annual Youth Day of Caring on Friday, April 23, 2010, to coincide with National Youth Service Day. Youth from area high schools will have the opportunity to participate in this program. View information on Youth Day of Caring (PDF format, 90 kb). Youth Allocation Panel: Each year, students are selected from local high schools to serve on a Youth Allocation Panel. The students review proposals and hear presentations about community programs that provide services for youth. The youth panel raises funds and then allocate these funds to health and human service organizations, which conduct programs that meet the panel’s priorities. This year, the students serving on the panel will raise the funds that will be distributed in spring. View a list of . View the participating schools and students (PDF format, 123 kb). Project Youth 2000+: Each year, the Volunteer Center partners with other community organizations to plan and implement Project Youth 2000+, a one-day program held annually in March that addresses pressing youth issues, including teen violence, drug and alcohol use, and decision making.
