Road to Success – Meet Kim
In the winter of 2021 Kim was pregnant and living on the streets of Harrisburg. As she worked to get back on her feet, Kim was connected to Road to Success, United Way of the Capital Region’s community initiative to help people get – and keep – jobs with opportunities for advancement. The program also helps with support services like child care, transportation, and clothing to ensure people in the program have the tools they need to succeed.
Kim worked with Lisa Byrne, Road to Success case manager, to find a job at GIANT located in the Kline Village Shopping Center in Harrisburg. Kim has received help with clothing and child care.
Kim began working part-time in the deli department and quickly advanced through her hard work and dedication to succeed. She recently completed a leadership training program to become a full-time manager of the deli department at the Kline Village Store.
“Kim is very goal-oriented,” Lisa says. “She grown more independent through Road to Success and wants to advance with GIANT.”
For Kim, getting a job has been about so much more than earning a paycheck. She has regained her independence and belief in herself. Kim is building on her accomplishments and looks forward to what’s next for her career. In her words, “the sky’s the limit!”
