More Than $8.7 Million Raised to Help Our Community

2020 Campaign Results

United Way of the Capital Region has raised $8,737,931 of its $8.8 million annual campaign goal to benefit the community. United Way made the announcement this afternoon at its Celebration of Gratitude virtual event.

“Every day we see the impact of our work in action as we help families obtain self-sufficiency,” said 2020 Campaign Chair John Campbell, director of business owner engagement for M&T Bank Wilmington Trust. “None of this work can be accomplished without resources. From individual gifts to corporate contributions, every gift makes a difference. We’re grateful for the support of our community.”

When the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the region, the organization launched the United Way of the Capital Region COVID-19 Basic Needs Response and Recovery Fund which raised $316,000 to support basic needs services in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties. Now, United Way is helping families get back on track during the recovery phase of the pandemic through proven programs in access to health care, basic needs, school readiness and workforce development.

Plans for United Way of the Capital Region’s 2021 campaign are already underway as the organization launches its 100th anniversary celebration later this year.

“While my time as campaign chair is over, my time as a member of this community continues,” added Campbell. “I will continue to champion the work of United Way and ask corporate and individual donors to do the same. When we work together, we can change our community for the better.”

At the event, Timothy B. Fatzinger, United Way of the Capital Region president and CEO, acknowledged the outstanding support of the Pillar Society, which consists of organizations that contribute $100,000 or more in combined corporate and employee giving to United Way. This year, the Pillar Society makes up 53 percent of the entire campaign.
