Real Impact: Meet Curtres

When unexpected circumstances impacted Curtres, she took action.

Several years ago, Curtres found herself in need of housing after a series of unexpected events changed her life.

“Sometimes bad things happen to good people,” Curtres says. “Once I wrapped my head around that, I knew I would be okay.”

Curtres found assistance with housing through Christian Churches United in Harrisburg. The organization is one of 19 programs supported by United Way of the Capital Region, which provide resources in urgent situations.

After finding a home, Curtres went back to school and earned a degree in medical assisting. She loves her career and is proud to have a place to call home.

“Now, I’m standing on my own two feet and it feels wonderful,” Curtres adds. “I’m grateful for the help I received.”

Every community needs a support system for individuals and families to turn to in urgent situations. That is why United Way supports basic needs programs and services in our community.
