United Way Presents 2019 Capita Award
United Way of the Capital Region presented the 2019 Joseph M. Capita Spirit of the Capital Region Award to John McHenry, president and CEO of Goodwill Keystone Area, at its Annual Meeting in May.
The Joseph M. Capita Spirit of the Capital Region Award recognizes an exceptional community partner or corporate citizen for superlative acts of community engagement and measurable impact in the health, education and betterment of our regional community.
John began his career at Goodwill as a truck driver. Early on, he realized the significant impact Goodwill has on people's lives and the reciprocal benefits to the community. While John's roles during his 47-year tenure changed, one principle value has never wavered: his steadfast commitment to Goodwill’s mission to help people with disabilities and other barriers to independence earn a paycheck and reach their fullest potential as workers and members of the broader community.
John’s foresight helped the organization launch numerous job readiness and placement programs throughout Goodwill Keystone Area's footprint. From preparing individuals for work, job-search services, and ongoing skills training and job support to internships and apprenticeships as well as custodial services and short-term labor fulfillment, John’s fingerprints can be seen in the various programs and services Goodwill offers.
