Women’s Leadership Network
Martin Luther King, Jr., Day Volunteer Event
Members of United Way of the Capital Region’s Women’s Leadership Network members and their children will spend Martin Luther King, Jr., Day giving back.
Volunteer Projects Include:
“Bookworm Buddy” Project
Volunteers will create caterpillar bookworms out of clothespins, giving children in our school readiness program a friend to read to by clipping it onto the page of a book. (Suitable for children 5+.)
Shoebox Meal Kits
Volunteers will assemble 150 meal kits for families in crisis. Volunteers will decorate and assemble boxes with personalized note cards. All kits will go to families in United Way programs. (Suitable for children 5+.)
Emergency Period Kits
Volunteers will create 300 small bags that will include tampons, pads, flushable wipes, and more to be given to Susquehanna Township School District for students in need. (Suitable for children 10+.)
Dental Kits
Volunteers will assemble 750 small bags with dental items such as a toothbrush, toothpaste and floss. (Suitable for children 8+.)
Administrative Support
Volunteers This includes one meeting with United Way staff prior to the event, assistance with event setup on Friday, January 16 (3-5 p.m.), help leading activities on January 19, and transportation of completed projects to the United Way office. (Adult WLN members.)
