Women’s Leadership Network (WLN)
Martin Luther King, Jr., Day Volunteer Event
Members of United Way of the Capital Region’s Women’s Leadership Network members are invited to join us as we spend Martin Luther King, Jr., Day giving back. Members can bring their children, ages 5+, as we strive to inspire volunteerism in our next generation of leaders.
Volunteer Projects Include:
Health Kits (suitable for children 8+)
Volunteers will assemble 250 health kits for families in our Contact to Care initiative which helps increase access to health care. Project capacity: 10 volunteers.
Literacy Kits (suitable for children 5+)
Volunteers will assemble 500 literacy kits for children in our Ready for School, Ready to Succeed initiative which helps prepare children for kindergarten. Project capacity: 20 volunteers.
Busy Boxes (suitable for children 5+)
Volunteers will create 500 interactive, educational games for children in Ready for School, Ready to Succeed. Project capacity: 30 volunteers.
Road to Success Bags (suitable for children 8+)
Volunteers will assemble 100 bags of supplies for individuals in our Road to Success initiative which helps people find – and keep – jobs with opportunities for advancement. Project capacity: 15 volunteers.
Administrative Support (adult WLN members)
Volunteers will help with administrative tasks. This includes one meeting with United Way staff prior to the event, assistance with event setup on Friday, January 12 (3-5 p.m.) and help leading activities on January 15. Project capacity: 5 WLN members.
