Exempt Status: Non-Exempt
Work Schedule: Full-Time with core hours of Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Purpose of Position: This position plans and executes events to engage United Way donors, volunteers and community leaders in our work. This includes volunteer initiatives and special events for our donors.

Position Responsibilities

  • Create, organize and implement special events for diverse audiences ranging from 10-500+ people.
  • Handle all event arrangements including, but not limited to scouting out and securing venues, scheduling dates that work with key volunteers, invitation design, pulling guest lists from United Way’s database, monitoring RSVP’s, menu and decor selection, ongoing event support and follow-up after the event.
  • Conduct post-event evaluations to assess goal achievement, attendee management and connection to United Way’s mission through annual giving.
  • Manage robust database of events attendees and produce target mailings for event promotion.
  • Design and create interactive engagement activities to promote United Way’s work in access to health care, basic needs, school readiness and workforce development.
  • Develop concepts and new ideas as needed for events. Write and proof event support materials.

Current and Potential Future Work (subject to change)

  • Help grow United Way’s donor engagement groups through volunteer projects, special outreach and events.
  • Develop, implement and manage volunteer projects to connect our current donors and prospective donors with our work. This can include sourcing and purchasing products.
  • Support the work of our donor engagement steering committees and councils including the management of their budgets.
  • Manage donor database to track donors and identify prospective members of our various donor engagement groups and/or company champions.
  • Other duties as assigned by the V.P. of Communications and Donor Engagement.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or related field of study or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of three years of related work experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills. Must be detailed oriented.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Adaptable and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Deadline oriented.
  • Work with diverse groups of people.
  • Must maintain access to reliable self-sufficient transportation.

Community Impact Manager – Health

Department: Community Impact

Exempt Status: Non -Exempt
Work Schedule: Full-Time with core hours of Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Must be able to work a flexible schedule which may include early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Purpose of Health Initiative: United Way of the Capital Region’s health initiative works to increase access to health care for those in our community. It does this by employing community health workers to help individuals navigate the health care system, overcome barriers to care and connect with a primary medical home.

Purpose of Position: To provide oversight to the health initiative operations and deliverables. To guide programming to achieve goals and outcomes. To lead strategies to ensure initiative effectiveness, scalability and sustainability.

Essential Functions

  • Staff and support initiatives relevant to health for community impact.
  • Serve as staff lead and administrative support for health initiative steering committee.
  • Manage meetings and facilitate group discussions.
  • Review and report initiative performance metrics and adjust programming accordingly.
  • Manage data collection tool.
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with area hospitals, clinic, health insurance providers and other subject matter experts.
  • Assist in establishing shared measurement practices for health initiatives.
  • Manage budget for health initiative.
  • Develop strategies for purposeful integration across all United Way’s initiatives.
  • Research best practices relevant to improving access to healthcare for the uninsured and underinsured and share findings with the health initiative steering committee.
  • Work in a team environment and independently as necessary
  • Keep VP of Community Impact informed of anticipated issues or shortfalls that may influence the success of the program and the achievement of goals.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • 3 years of project management experience required.
  • 2 years of experience in nonprofit environment or in leading volunteers preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in healthcare industry preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Possess a basic understanding of bookkeeping and budgeting concepts.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills required.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver license and reliable transportation.

Work Schedule: Full-Time with core hours of Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include early mornings, evenings and weekends.
Purpose of Position: The major gifts officer supports United Way donors of who give $10,000+ annually. They are responsible for major giving engagement, prospect research, giving and designation information, and recognition.

Position Responsibilities

  • Solicit current and prospective major gift donors.
  • Manage relationships with major gift ($10,000+ annually) donors and prospects.
  • Identify, research and qualify prospective donors.
  • Develop and maintain highly customized donor engagement plans and donor files.
  • Ensure all major gift donors receive follow-up communications and recognition, including thanks for all gifts.
  • Record activities, update donor information and apply all tracking metrics in our database.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of an annual major gifts’ operations plan.
  • Engage with and support major gift donors who volunteer with United Way.
  • Collaborate with other fundraising staff to solicit and engage with major gift donors through their place of employment.
  • Collaborate with communications and donor engagement department to produce materials and tools to communicate regularly with donors and supporters.
  • Help plan, promote and attend all events and functions for donors who are major givers.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to five years’ experience in nonprofit fundraising or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication, public speaking, group training/facilitation, and organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and gain the respect of a broad constituency base, including executive levels in business, industry and government, foundation management, service providers and other key community leaders.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must maintain access to reliable self-sufficient transportation.

Accounts Payable Specialist (Part-Time)

Accounts Payable Specialist (Part-Time)

Department: Finance and Support Services
Reports to: Vice President of Finance and Support Services
Exempt Status: Non-Exempt
Work Schedule: Part-time. 15-20 hours per week between core hours of Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Purpose of Position: To provide accounting and data entry services as well as general office support with the major emphasis on accounts payable transactions.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain accounts payable by obtaining purchase orders or approved invoices, preparing invoices for payment, cutting checks or issuing electronic payments, generating reports, and filing invoices.
  • Maintain vendor files for accounts payable.
  • Manage correspondence with vendors and provide customer service when needed.
  • Assist in maintenance and organization of our various databases.
  • Provide administrative support to the Finance department as needed.
  • Assist with regulatory filings for PA Bureau of Charities, PA State Sales Tax, Small Games of Chance and Special Raffle Permits, and Form 1099’s.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Position Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Must be detail oriented, have an intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Understanding of specific software as related to especially those pertaining to financial management, accounting, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare specialized reports.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and focus on multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience working with volunteers and in the nonprofit/fundraising environment.
  • Must be a self-starter with ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
