MIYP Client Story – Meet Davaté
Saving for the Future Through the Money in Your Pocket Program
For the past several years, Davaté of Harrisburg has relied on the Money in Your Pocket program at Tri County Community Action to have her taxes prepared. The program, led by United Way of the Capital Region, utilizes trained volunteers to prepare taxes for low- to moderate-income working families in the Capital Region.
“I trust my tax preparer,” Davaté says. “I have always received great customer service.”
For many residents in our community, the cost of tax preparation is unaffordable. Through Money in Your Pocket, clients have their taxes prepared at no cost and receive peace of mind knowing skilled volunteers have completed and filed their taxes. This service allows clients to focus on what is most important in their lives. For Davaté, that focus is a new vocation.
“I want to go back to school to become an esthetician,” Davaté adds. “I am very determined to accomplish this goal.”
Davaté plans to use her tax refund to fix her car and pay off miscellaneous bills so she can save for her future.
“I tell everyone about this program,” Davaté says. “I am very grateful.”
Money in Your Pocket is a community collaboration of organizations committed to the economic stability of local families. The program aims to increase use of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC). The EITC is a tax credit offered by the federal government to supplement wages for low-income workers.
Money in Your Pocket receives financial support from the PNC Foundation, the Truist Foundation and the U.S. Department of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service.
